Dental hygiene visit: what to expect

  • Your dental hygienist will thoroughly check your teeth and gums for the presence of plaque and tartar as well as assessing the condition of your tooth enamel.  
  • The dental hygienist will examine any gaps between teeth in case there are signs or risk of receding gums and this may indicate a referral to a periodontist for treatment.  
  • Removing any the tartar and plaque is one of the most important tasks carried out by the dental hygienist. Regular de-scaling is recommended to preserve the life-span of your tooth life by getting rid of harmful bacteria which could lead to tooth decay.
  • Once the teeth have been de-scaled then the dental hygienist will give your teeth a good polish to help keep them stain free until your next appointment  and to make your teeth more resistant to the build-up of unfriendly bacteria.

The AirFlow deep cleansing and polishing treatment involves blasting plaque and tough stains off the surface of the teeth with a combination of water, air and a fine powder which safely and thoroughly cleans your teeth. The cost of a 45 minute hygiene visit with the AirFlow add-on service is £150.
