Root Canal Therapy Rickmansworth
What is Root Canal Therapy (RCT)?
Root Canal Therapy (Endodontics) is the recommended treatment when the pulp inside a tooth gets infected as a consequence of tooth decay or physical damage. A successful RCT treatment will prevent the infection spreading and eliminate any associated pain. Left untreated there is a strong likelihood of an abscess developing under the tooth and the need for a tooth extraction.
The aim of the RCT treatment is to remove all infection from the affected root canal and then the root cavity is cleaned and filled. Initially a temporary filling is put in and the tooth is left to settle. Once a subsequent visit confirms that the infection has cleared up, then the tooth is permanently filled. In some cases we will restore the affected tooth with a dental crown.
